The Ministry of Environmental Protection recently issued the Measures for the Public Participation in Environmental Protection, which will enter into force on September 1, 2015.
The Measures stipulate that environmental protection authorities shall support and encourage media and social supervision by citizens, legal persons and other organizations over environmental protection public affairs; any citizen, legal person or other organization that reveals environmental pollution or ecological damaging conduct by any entity or individual may report to competent authorities by letter, fax, e-mail, complaint hotline 12369, and government website etc.; the authorities receiving such reports shall investigate the reported matters and notify the informant about investigation and handling results in according to relevant laws and regulations.
