Recently, the newly revised Law on the Prevention and Control of Air Pollution is adopted at the 15th session of the Standing Committee of the Twelfth National People's Congress, which will come into force on January 1, 2016.
The revised Law reflects improvements in the following 4 aspects: (1) reinforcing the responsibilities of local governments and strengthening the supervision over them with the goal of improving the air environmental quality; (2) insisting on source control and perfecting the relevant systems by way of transforming the economic development mode, optimizing the industrial structure and adjusting the energy structure; (3) focusing on the principal issues and figuring out the prominent problems, viz, stipulating specific requirements of joint prevention and control in key regions as well as responsive measures against heavy pollution weather in view of the reality that the current main pollutants come from coal, industries and motor vehicles; (4) imposing stricter punishments.
