CHONGQING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Yu Haiyan, former vice governor of northwest China's Gansu Province, stood trial for bribery Thursday at the First Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing Municipality.
According to the prosecutor indictment, between 1998 and 2016, Yu took advantage of various posts to seek benefit on product sales, project contracting, real estate development and personnel arrangments and promotions for some units and individuals.
In return, he accepted money and gifts worth over 65.6 million yuan (10.3 million U.S. dollars) either by himself or through his wife, Li Yanhua, the indictment said.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence, which Yu and his defense attorneys examined.
Both sides fully expressed their opinions, according to the court.
Yu gave his final statement in court, pleaded guilty and expressed repentance.
About 70 people, including Yu's family, lawmakers, political advisors, journalists and members of public, attended the trial.
The court ruling will be announced at a later date.
