Implementation of supportive reforms for the judicial system of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) was emphasized in a video conference on July 25. Guo Shengkun, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the point at the conference that courts at all levels should identify and seize opportunities and challenges in judicial system reform in accordance with the central government's direction. Guo explained the significance of judicial system reform and suggested an overall implementation strategy. The conference emphasized that each part of the judicial system is required to take responsibility for promotion of the reform by publicizing reform experience and strengthening policy interpretation and publicity guidance. It's also necessary to implement a standardized and orderly judicial system that integrates power and responsibility. It was also mentioned that there is a need to deepen criminal litigation system reform with a focus on trial methods and the role witnesses, including investigators and appraisers, play in court proceedings.
