The Chinese government Wednesday approved in principle two draft laws on occupational diseases and management of maritime space.
Presided over by Premier Zhu Rongji, the 39th executive meeting
by the State Council, the central government, decided to submit
the two draft laws, following proper revisions, to the Standing
Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, for deliberation.
According to the meeting, it was necessary to draft the occupational diseases law as the harm brought by various
occupational diseases has increased due to growing incidence of the diseases.
The meeting said many occupational diseases harm the work
ability of employees, which requires expensive treatment and
rehabilitation, thus causing a heavy financial burden for employees, the employers and the country.
The meeting said the formulation of the law on maritime space
management aims to safeguard the ownership of the State over the
seas and the legitimate rights of those authorized to use the sea area.
The draft law was designed to promote sustainable maritime exploitation, the meeting said. Enditem
