| Article 1 This Law is enacted in accordance with the Constitution for the purpose of promoting the normalization and standardization of the standard spoken and written Chinese language and its sound development, making it play a better role in public activities and in promoting economic and cultural exchange among all the Chinese nationalities and regions, fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and increasing confidence in our culture. | | 第一条 为了推动国家通用语言文字的规范化、标准化及其健康发展，更好发挥国家通用语言文字在社会生活和促进各民族、各地区经济文化交流中的作用，铸牢中华民族共同体意识，坚定文化自信，根据宪法，制定本法。 |
| Article 2 For the purposes of this Law, the standard spoken and written Chinese language means Putonghua (a common speech with pronunciation based on the Beijing dialect) and standardized Chinese characters, which are the nationwide common spoken and written language provided by the law of the State. | | 第二条 本法所称的国家通用语言文字是普通话和规范汉字，是国家法定全国通用的语言文字。 |

| The standard spoken and written Chinese language shall be used in such a way as to be conducive to upholding state sovereignty and national dignity, to the unification of the country and unity of the nationalities, to the fostering and promotion of the core socialist values, to the inheritance and development of fine traditional Chinese culture, to the building of a shared spiritual homeland for the Chinese nation, and to socialist material progress and ethical progress. | | 国家通用语言文字的使用应当有利于维护国家主权和民族尊严，有利于国家统一和民族团结，有利于培育和弘扬社会主义核心价值观，有利于传承发展中华优秀文化和构筑中华民族共有精神家园，有利于社会主义物质文明建设和精神文明建设。 |
| Article 6 The State promulgates standard norms of the spoken and written Chinese language, administers its use in the community, supports the teaching of and scientific research in the language, and advances the application of information, digital, and intelligent technologies in the field of the standard spoken and written Chinese language, in order to promote its normalization, enrichment, and development. | | 第六条 国家颁布国家通用语言文字的规范和标准，管理国家通用语言文字的社会应用，支持国家通用语言文字的教学和科学研究，推进国家通用语言文字的信息化、数字化、智能化建设，促进国家通用语言文字的规范、丰富和发展。 |
| Article 7 The people's governments at or above the county level shall incorporate the cause of the spoken and written Chinese language into plans related to national economic and social development and budge funds required for spoken and written Chinese language endeavors at their levels. | | 第七条 县级以上人民政府应当将语言文字事业纳入国民经济和社会发展相关规划，将语言文字工作所需经费列入本级预算。 |
| The people's governments at all levels and their relevant departments shall take measures to promote and popularize the standard spoken and written Chinese language. | | 各级人民政府及其有关部门应当采取措施，推广普及国家通用语言文字。 |
| The State ensures better conditions for promoting and popularizing the standard spoken and written Chinese language in areas with large ethnic minority populations, rural areas, and remote areas. | | 国家加强民族地区、农村地区和边远地区推广普及国家通用语言文字的条件保障。 |
| Article 8 The organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the cause of the standard spoken and written Chinese language shall be commended and rewarded in accordance with the relevant provisions issued by the State. | | 第八条 对为国家通用语言文字事业做出突出贡献的组织和个人，按照国家有关规定给予表彰、奖励。 |
| The third week of September each year shall be the National Promotion and Popularization Week for the Standard Spoken and Written Chinese Language. | | 每年9月的第三周为国家通用语言文字推广普及宣传周。 |
